In This tutorial you can learn how to create 3ds Max Ambient Occlusion Pass with mental Ray . Easy Methods for Rendering Ambient Occlusion Pass in mental ray ,few simple steps to Create the Ambient Occlusion pass.
The Process For Rendering Ambient Occlusion Pass in mental ray is as follows :
Step 01 :
This is my 3ds max scene for this tutorial.
Step 02 :
1st we have to set Renderer to mental ray . Press F10 to open a render setting dialog box.than go in “assign renderer” settings and set renderer to “mental ray Renderer”.
Step 03 :
After setting up renderer to mental ray. Now it time to make ambient occlusion material. Open material Editor (Press “M” on keyboard to open material editor).Select a material slot from material editor.I choose 1st slot. Now change material type, default its set to “standard material”. click on standard and material/map browser dialog box open .Go in mantel ray materials and select “mental ray” and hit ok.
Step 04 :
We change material editor’s 1st slot to Mental ray . Now your 1st slot material look like image below.Now this material convert in to Mental ray shader.
By default 1st material slot name – “01 default” .Now rename this material to “OCC“.
Step 05 :
In Mantel ray material click on Surface and assign new material called Ambient/Reflective Occlusion.
Whan you click on surface new Material/Map Browser pop up go in mental ray materials and pick “Ambient/Reflective Occlusion”.
Step 06 :
Now Ambient Occlusion material ready to go.Instant of assign this material to each and every object we use 3ds max a nice feature called “Material Override” we assign Ambient Occlusion Material ones and it will automatically assign all object to ambient occlusion material,Material override is rendering processes it will allow us to override all materials/map with new single material.
Press F10 to open up Render Setting Dialog Box.Go in Processing and find out Material Override ,Enable Material Override.After enabling material override option click on Material(None) to assign material.
Step 07 :
Whan you click on material(None) in material override to assign a new material(we are going to assign ambient occlusion material). Material/Map Browser pop up go in sample slots and Choose 1st Material (we rename this slot to OCC).
Step 08 :
Now new Instance or copy (method) dialog box pop up.there is two option Instance or Copy.
- Instance method : Creates a completely interchangeable clone of the original.
- Copy method : Creates a completely separate clone from the original. Modifying one has no effect on the other.
choose Instance because we don’t want different material for material override. we modify this material in material editor and it will automatically update ,So choose instance and hit ok.
Step 09 :
After setting a material override in render setting.material override assign all scene to single material. In this case it is ambient occlusion material.Now hit render button or Shift+Q and you see Ambient Occlusion pass in render.
